The continued work of the grammar school affected the quality of the citizens ' lives who accepted the advanced ideas of the Croatian Nationl Revival fighting within the monarchy for the rights of the Croatian assembly and the governor Jelačić. In 1845 the association of the National Library was founded, and in 1847 Požega and the county- as the first- introduced the national language as the official. Miroslav Kraljević founded the first printing house and was publishing the cultural magazine 'Slavonac'. In the end of the century many associations were set up whose work based on charity, cultural, sports and other activities. Among the oldest groups were: the voluntary fire brigade, the Croatian singing group 'Vijenac', the shooting club, the group for embellishing the town, hiking association, sports group 'Hrvatski sokol' and others.
Many famous people who contributed to the scientific and cultural life were born in Požega.
